Verification Levels
Context that supports better decisions.
Artifact uses verification roles to give members useful context around age-restricted access, creator participation, and community trust. Verification can be helpful, but it is never a replacement for communication, good judgment, or safer payment practices.
Verification is not an endorsement.
A verification role means that a member has completed a particular Artifact review or eligibility process. It does not mean Artifact guarantees their work, behavior, communication, turnaround time, or the outcome of a private commission.
Think of verification as one piece of context. It can help you make a more informed decision, but you should still review portfolios, read terms, communicate clearly, and use protected payment methods whenever possible.
Understanding Artifact verification.
Different roles exist for different reasons. Not every role relates to marketplace trust, and no role should be treated as an automatic promise of quality or safety.
Community Member
A member participating in Artifact’s community spaces. Community membership alone does not indicate age status, seller status, or a completed creator review.
18+ Verified
Indicates that a member has completed Artifact’s adult-access verification process. This role is for age-restricted access, not marketplace endorsement.
Artisan Verified
Indicates that a creator has completed Artifact’s Artisan review process and meets the requirements for verified creator participation.
Verification provides context. Trust is still built through actions.
What each role does and does not mean.
Understanding these boundaries helps protect both commissioners and creators from misplaced expectations.
Verification can help show
- That a member completed a specific Artifact review process
- That an Artisan met the current creator verification requirements
- That an 18+ Verified member has access to adult-only areas
- That a creator has chosen to participate in Artifact’s verified marketplace systems
- That Artifact has some existing community context for the member
Verification does not guarantee
- Commission quality, turnaround time, pricing, or communication style
- That every transaction will go perfectly
- That a creator is the right fit for your project
- That a member cannot make mistakes or violate policy in the future
- That Artifact will act as escrow, a payment processor, or a legal representative
For commissioners.
Verification can be useful when comparing creators, but it should never be your only deciding factor.
Use verification alongside
- A creator’s portfolio and recent examples
- Clear pricing and commission terms
- Written agreement on scope, revisions, and timelines
- Protected payment methods and invoices
- Your own comfort level with the creator’s communication
Remember to
- Review terms before payment is sent
- Ask questions before accepting an unclear quote
- Keep important details and approvals in writing
- Use caution if anyone pressures you to rush or bypass safeguards
- Report serious concerns through the proper Artifact process
For artists and artisans.
Verification can help you present your creative services with additional clarity, but the strongest trust signal is still how you work with people.
Clear Terms
Explain payment rules, refund policies, usage rights, revisions, and expected turnaround times.
Honest Examples
Show work that accurately represents your current style, skill level, and available commission types.
Reliable Communication
Keep commissioners informed when delays, questions, or changes affect an active commission.
Adult verification and marketplace access.
18+ verification exists to protect age-restricted areas and adult-content boundaries.
It does not mean someone is automatically a verified artist, a trusted seller, or endorsed for private transactions. Adult-content commissions and conversations must always follow Artifact’s age, verification, and content policies.
Verification is reviewed, not permanent immunity.
Verification roles may be removed, updated, or reviewed if new information, policy concerns, serious misconduct, or marketplace safety issues arise.
Artifact’s goal is not to create a false sense of certainty. It is to give members more context, better tools, and a clearer path for raising concerns when something does not feel right.
