Community Guidelines

Clear expectations help creativity and community thrive.

These guidelines explain how Artifact members are expected to participate. They exist to protect people, reduce confusion, and preserve a space where creativity, connection, and trust can grow.

Discord platform rules apply here.

Artifact operates on Discord. Every member must follow Discord’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and all applicable platform policies in addition to Artifact’s own rules.

Artifact may set stricter standards for this community. When Discord policy, applicable law, or Artifact policy differ, members must follow the stricter applicable requirement.

How to read these guidelines.

The Community Charter explains the culture and values Artifact wants to build. This page explains the practical standards members are expected to follow.

Some subjects have their own detailed pages, including adult content, marketplace safety, verification, voice recording, reporting, and appeals. Those pages are part of Artifact’s rules and should be read alongside these Guidelines when relevant.

Respect people and participate in good faith.

Artifact is for people with different interests, backgrounds, skill levels, identities, boundaries, and creative goals. Treat others with basic dignity.

Expected conduct

  • Be respectful in public channels, private conversations, voice chat, events, and marketplace interactions
  • Disagree without insults, personal attacks, intimidation, or attempts to humiliate others
  • Respect personal boundaries, creative ownership, time, and the ability to decline a request
  • Keep criticism constructive, relevant, and welcome
  • Assume good faith when reasonable, and ask for clarification before escalating misunderstandings

Not permitted

  • Harassment, bullying, threats, dogpiling, stalking, or targeted hostility
  • Hate speech, slurs, discriminatory conduct, or attacks based on identity or protected characteristics
  • Sexual harassment, unwanted sexual attention, or pressuring someone to share private material
  • Mocking members for skill level, disability, language ability, identity, fandom, or personal boundaries
  • Using “jokes,” roleplay, irony, or shock value as a cover for abusive behavior

Respect is not passive.
It is visible in how we choose to treat people.

Protect privacy, accounts, and personal information.

Members should be able to participate without fear of being exposed, impersonated, manipulated, or pressured into giving up private information.

🪪

No Doxxing

Never share, request, threaten to share, or collect someone’s personal information without clear consent.

🔐

No Account Theft

Do not request passwords, recovery codes, login links, payment credentials, or authentication codes.

🔗

No Unsafe Links

Do not share malicious files, deceptive links, QR codes, IP loggers, credential traps, or unsafe downloads.

Privacy expectations

  • Do not post addresses, phone numbers, personal email addresses, legal names, workplace details, or private documents
  • Do not expose someone’s identity, location, offline life, or private communications without permission
  • Do not record, screenshot, repost, or quote private content in order to shame, threaten, or target someone
  • Keep profile names, avatars, banners, and public-facing bios appropriate for a mixed-age community

When something feels unsafe

  • Pause before clicking, scanning, downloading, paying, or sharing sensitive information
  • Verify unusual requests through a known official channel
  • Save relevant evidence without editing away important context
  • Report serious security, privacy, impersonation, or scam concerns privately to staff

Keep community spaces usable.

Channels exist for a reason. Using the right place for the right conversation makes Artifact easier, calmer, and more enjoyable for everyone.

Please do

  • Use channels according to their topic, purpose, and posted instructions
  • Use content warnings, spoilers, and tags when they are needed
  • Keep self-promotion, commission posts, and creative advertising inside approved areas
  • Move long-running side conversations when requested by staff or when a more appropriate channel exists
  • Use tickets for server concerns, moderation matters, and questions that require staff attention

Please do not

  • Spam, flood channels, mass-ping, post disruptive ASCII walls, or repeatedly repost the same content
  • Mic spam, play excessively loud audio, use disruptive sound effects, or make voice chat unusable
  • Use misleading titles, fake announcements, bait-and-switch links, or impersonated staff messages
  • Advertise unrelated servers, businesses, products, or services without prior approval
  • Attempt to bypass channel restrictions, role permissions, slow mode, moderation tools, or staff direction

Handle conflict responsibly.

Disagreement is normal. Public punishment campaigns, rumor-sharing, and retaliation are not.

💬

Pause First

Cool down, ask questions, and consider whether a misunderstanding can be resolved without escalation.

🚫

No Public Callouts

Do not create exposés, accusation threads, dogpiles, harassment campaigns, or public evidence dumps.

🛡️

Report Serious Concerns

Use the reporting process for harassment, threats, scams, exploitation, impersonation, or policy violations.

Politics, religion, and polarizing debate.

Artifact is not a venue for campaigning, propaganda, ideological recruitment, or ongoing political and religious conflict. Members may create or share art that explores social, political, religious, or historical themes when it is presented as art, storytelling, satire, or discussion of the work itself.

Do not turn creative posts into hostile debate spaces, pressure others to adopt your views, or use the community to organize conflict against another person, group, fandom, or server.

Adult content and sensitive material.

Artifact allows some adult and sensitive fictional content only under specific conditions. These boundaries protect members, staff, and the server itself.

Core expectations

  • Only members with the appropriate 18+ verification may access or post adult material
  • Adult content must remain in designated age-restricted spaces
  • Do not send adult content or sexual messages to anyone who is under 18 or not properly verified
  • Use required tags, content warnings, and opt-in channels for sensitive fictional themes
  • Ask staff before posting when a subject may be borderline, confusing, or difficult to classify

Strict boundaries

  • No sexualized minors, youth-coded sexual content, grooming, or adult transactions involving minors
  • No real-life pornography, sexualized selfies, intimate recordings, or non-consensual intimate imagery
  • No bestiality, zoophilia, real-world sexual exploitation, or prohibited real-life harm
  • No real-life gore, extreme realistic torture, or shock content designed to disturb or exploit
  • Fictional or artistic intent never overrides age, consent, privacy, or Discord policy requirements

Marketplace and creative integrity.

Creative work, commissions, trades, and marketplace discussions should be handled honestly, professionally, and with appropriate care for both buyers and creators.

Creators and sellers must

  • Represent their work, experience, pricing, and availability honestly
  • Respect agreed scope, timelines, boundaries, payment expectations, and usage rights
  • Use clear terms and maintain communication when delays or complications happen
  • Not sell, trade, or misrepresent AI-generated work as human-created work
  • Never offer adult commissions, adult trades, or adult services to minors

Commissioners and buyers must

  • Respect a creator’s terms, queue, boundaries, pricing, and creative process
  • Not pressure creators for free work, rushed delivery, extra revisions, or personal access
  • Use reasonable payment records and keep important agreements in writing
  • Not submit false chargebacks, fake payment proofs, or misleading scam accusations
  • Report serious fraud, stolen work, impersonation, or unsafe conduct privately

Voice chat, streams, and recordings.

Voice channels are social spaces. Treat them with the same care, consent, and respect expected anywhere else in Artifact.

🎤

Be Considerate

Do not dominate conversations, force participation, use disruptive audio, or make voice spaces hostile.

⏺️

Announce Recording

Recording is prohibited unless it is clearly announced and handled according to Artifact’s recording policy.

🧩

Respect Comfort Levels

Do not pressure someone to stay in a conversation, reveal personal information, or participate in adult discussion.

Moderation, reporting, and enforcement.

Staff may remove content, issue warnings, restrict access, suspend members, or permanently ban accounts based on the severity, context, evidence, and pattern of behavior involved.

Serious conduct may result in immediate action without progressive warnings. This can include exploitation, sexualized content involving minors, credible threats, doxxing, malicious account attacks, serious scams, real-world violence, or other severe Discord or Artifact policy violations.

Staff decisions and evidence are handled privately whenever possible to protect reporters, witnesses, and members involved. Do not evade moderation by blocking staff, using alternate accounts, deleting relevant evidence, or recruiting others to interfere with a review.
