Artifact Bots

Helpful tools. Clear systems. Human judgment.

Artifact’s bots support access, organization, safety, and community systems. They are built to reduce repetitive work and make the community easier to navigate— never to replace staff judgment, member responsibility, or real conversation.

Automation should support people.

Good community tools should make things clearer, not colder. Artifact uses bots to help members find information, manage access, support structured workflows, and keep routine tasks from becoming overwhelming.

Bots can help guide a process, but they do not replace context. Complex concerns, safety issues, moderation questions, and member wellbeing still require human review.

What Artifact bots are built to support.

Each tool has a defined purpose and should make participating in Artifact more reliable, understandable, and respectful.

Its purpose is to make important processes easier to follow while preserving a clear line between automated assistance and human moderation. The Gate Keeper helps guide the path; Artifact staff remain responsible for judgment, safety, and final decisions.

What bots do not replace.

Artifact is intentional about keeping human decisions human.

Bots can help with

  • Guiding members toward the right information or process
  • Supporting routine organization and structured community workflows
  • Providing reminders, references, and consistent system messages
  • Reducing repetitive administrative work where automation makes sense
  • Helping staff spend more time on situations that need real attention

Bots do not decide

  • Complex moderation outcomes or appeals
  • Whether a member’s concern is valid, serious, or safe to ignore
  • Private disputes that require context, evidence, or empathy
  • Whether a creative, personal, or safety situation deserves human care
  • What Artifact should value as a community

Transparency matters.

Artifact aims to be clear about the purpose of its tools. Bots should not quietly collect unnecessary information, create hidden expectations, or act beyond the role members reasonably understand them to have.

As Artifact tools develop, this section will explain their purpose, relevant privacy information, and the community systems they are designed to support.
