Artifact
Terms of Service
Clear expectations for a creative, safer community.
These Terms govern use of Artifact’s website, Discord community, community systems, marketplace spaces, and related services.
Please read these Terms.
By accessing Artifact’s website, joining or participating in Artifact’s Discord community, using Artifact tools or bots, posting content, interacting in marketplace areas, or otherwise using Artifact services, you agree to these Terms of Service.
These Terms work alongside Artifact’s Community Guidelines, Trust & Safety policies, Marketplace policies, Bot Terms, Privacy Policy, and any channel-specific or event-specific rules. Where multiple rules apply, you must follow the stricter applicable requirement.
What Artifact is.
Artifact is a creative community rooted in the furry fandom and welcoming to artists, commissioners, makers, writers, performers, hobbyists, and fans across many creative interests.
Artifact includes its website, Discord community, community spaces, bots, moderation systems, verification systems, marketplace-related education, public resources, and other services operated under the Artifact name.
Artifact may update, expand, limit, replace, or discontinue parts of its community, website, tools, channels, events, or services as community needs evolve.
Eligibility and account responsibility.
You may use Artifact only through a valid account and in a manner that complies with applicable law, Discord’s platform rules, and Artifact’s own policies.
- You are responsible for activity connected to your Discord account and any account you use to access Artifact.
- You may not impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity, or use alternate accounts to evade restrictions, bans, or entry decisions.
- You must meet Discord’s applicable age requirements for your region.
- You may only access adult or age-restricted areas when you meet Artifact’s stated eligibility and verification requirements.
- You may not transfer, sell, lend, or give another person access to your account for the purpose of bypassing community controls.
Discord and Artifact rules.
Artifact operates through Discord. All members must follow Discord’s Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and applicable platform policies in addition to Artifact’s own rules.
Artifact may set stricter standards than Discord where needed to protect members, maintain trust, support age-appropriate access, preserve creative spaces, or address behavior that undermines the community.
Core expectations.
Artifact is built around shared creativity, active respect, consent, trust, and responsible participation.
Members must
- Communicate respectfully and avoid harassment, hate, threats, discrimination, or targeted cruelty.
- Respect privacy, consent, boundaries, and channel-specific expectations.
- Use the correct channels, labels, content warnings, and restricted spaces where required.
- Follow staff direction during active safety, moderation, or support matters.
- Keep disputes private and use the proper reporting or appeal process instead of public callouts or dogpiles.
- Act honestly in verification, marketplace, reporting, and safety-related processes.
Members may not
- Harass, threaten, stalk, dox, extort, impersonate, or target another person.
- Share unsafe links, malware, phishing attempts, IP loggers, scams, or deceptive downloads.
- Evade bans, role restrictions, age gates, verification controls, or moderation actions.
- Use Artifact to coordinate illegal activity, harmful conduct, or platform-policy violations.
- Expose private reports, staff evidence, application responses, or personal information without authorization.
- Use community tools, bots, or marketplace spaces to manipulate, exploit, or deceive others.
Membership, access, and moderation.
Access to Artifact is a privilege, not a guaranteed right. Artifact may approve, delay, limit, remove, or deny access when needed for safety, policy enforcement, operational needs, community health, or the integrity of its entry process.
Artifact staff may use reports, available evidence, account history, member conduct, credible safety concerns, and relevant context when making moderation or access decisions. Staff may act before a situation escalates where reasonably necessary to protect people or systems.
Artifact is not required to reveal every piece of evidence or every internal moderation detail, particularly where disclosure could compromise privacy, safety, investigations, staff security, platform reports, or the wellbeing of other members.
Enforcement and appeals.
Artifact may issue warnings, remove content, limit access, remove roles, restrict marketplace participation, suspend access, remove members, or permanently ban accounts depending on severity, pattern, risk, and context.
Serious conduct may result in immediate action without prior warning, including conduct involving sexualized minors, exploitation, real-life sexual content, credible threats, doxxing, severe harassment, unsafe links, scams, ban evasion, illegal conduct, or major Discord policy violations.
Where an appeal is available, it must be submitted through Artifact’s designated process. An appeal is a request for review, not a promise that a decision will be reversed.
Your content and intellectual property.
You retain ownership of original content you create and share in Artifact, subject to any rights you grant to Discord under Discord’s own Terms of Service.
By posting content in Artifact, you grant Artifact a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, format, reproduce, and share that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, moderate, archive, and maintain Artifact’s community spaces.
Artifact does not claim ownership of your original artwork, writing, music, character designs, commissions, or other creative work merely because you shared it in the community.
- Only share content you have the right to post.
- Respect creator credit, usage restrictions, licenses, and commission terms.
- Do not repost, trace, copy, sell, redistribute, or claim another person’s work without permission.
- Do not use another person’s likeness, private material, or personal information without appropriate consent.
- Artifact may remove content that violates rights, policies, safety standards, or platform rules.
Marketplace participation.
Artifact may provide community spaces, education, verification context, safety resources, and guidelines related to commissions, sales, trades, artist promotion, and creative transactions.
Artifact is not a payment processor, escrow provider, insurance provider, legal representative, agent, employer, guarantor, or party to transactions between members.
- Members are responsible for their own pricing, terms, invoices, deliverables, deadlines, taxes, and legal obligations.
- Verification, staff presence, portfolio visibility, or community reputation is not a guarantee of quality, delivery, honesty, or financial safety.
- Members must not scam, charge back in bad faith, forge evidence, impersonate artists or commissioners, or use stolen portfolios.
- Adult commissions, sales, or trades must comply with Artifact’s age rules and restricted-content policies.
- Artifact may limit or remove marketplace access where it identifies fraud, safety concerns, deceptive conduct, or policy violations.
Adult and age-restricted content.
Artifact may maintain restricted adult spaces for eligible, verified adults. Access to those areas is conditional on following Artifact’s adult-content, youth-safety, consent, and channel-specific rules.
No policy label, content warning, fictional framing, channel restriction, or claimed artistic purpose can make prohibited content acceptable. Content involving sexualized minors, exploitation, real-life pornography, prohibited animal sexual content, or other severe safety violations is not permitted.
Artificial intelligence and creative technology.
Artifact may allow limited discussion, study, reference, or tagging of AI-generated material under its current AI and creative technology policy. Members must not misrepresent AI-generated work as solely human-created work where Artifact policy requires disclosure.
AI-generated content may not be used to bypass Artisan verification, mislead commissioners, sell or trade work in violation of Artifact policy, impersonate creators, or otherwise create confusion about authorship or rights.
Privacy and community records.
Artifact may process information needed to operate the website, Discord community, bots, member-entry workflows, reporting, moderation, verification, marketplace systems, and safety processes.
Artifact’s handling of personal information is described in its Privacy Policy and any applicable tool-specific privacy pages. Users should not submit unnecessary sensitive information through public channels, direct messages, forms, or bots.
Artifact may retain records where reasonably necessary for moderation, safety, dispute handling, platform reporting, legal obligations, enforcement history, or prevention of abuse and ban evasion.
Third-party services and links.
Artifact may link to or rely on third-party services, including Discord, payment providers, portfolio platforms, social platforms, websites, artists, event providers, and other community resources.
Artifact does not control third-party services and is not responsible for their availability, policies, content, security, actions, terms, data practices, or transactions. Your use of third-party services is governed by the terms and privacy practices of those services.
Availability and changes.
Artifact is provided on an “as available” basis. We may modify, pause, restrict, replace, or discontinue any website page, Discord channel, event, bot feature, marketplace feature, verification workflow, or community resource when needed for safety, maintenance, compatibility, moderation, legal compliance, or community operations.
Artifact does not guarantee uninterrupted access, permanent availability of content, immediate staff response, error-free operation, successful transactions, or preservation of all messages, files, roles, posts, records, or community resources.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Artifact and its owners, operators, administrators, moderators, staff, volunteers, contractors, agents, partners, affiliates, successors, and assigns are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to Artifact.
Artifact and its protected parties are not responsible for the conduct, content, statements, transactions, promises, creative work, files, links, commissions, marketplace disputes, moderation disputes, or actions of members, staff, vendors, artists, commissioners, third parties, or external services.
Artifact does not guarantee that the community, website, bots, moderation systems, staff processes, entry procedures, verification systems, or marketplace resources will prevent every scam, safety issue, dispute, policy violation, harmful interaction, technical problem, or misuse by another person.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any other liability that cannot legally be limited or waived.
Indemnification and hold harmless.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Artifact and its owners, operators, administrators, moderators, staff, volunteers, contractors, agents, partners, affiliates, successors, and assigns from and against any claims, demands, actions, proceedings, damages, losses, liabilities, penalties, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or related to your conduct, content, use of Artifact, or violation of these Terms.
This includes claims, losses, liabilities, or expenses arising from or related to:
- Your access to or use of Artifact’s website, Discord community, bots, marketplace spaces, events, systems, or resources.
- Your messages, posts, uploads, artwork, files, links, transactions, listings, commissions, or other content.
- Your violation of these Terms, Artifact policies, Discord policies, applicable law, or another person’s rights.
- Your infringement, misuse, unauthorized sharing, or unlawful use of intellectual property, personal information, likenesses, or private material.
- Your marketplace activity, including disputes involving payments, commissions, sales, trades, chargebacks, refunds, deliverables, or agreements with another member or third party.
- Your misuse of Artifact tools, bots, forms, reporting systems, verification systems, marketplace areas, or staff-review processes.
- Any third-party claim connected to your conduct, content, transactions, statements, or participation in Artifact.
Artifact may, where permitted by law, assume control of the defense of a matter subject to indemnification. You agree to reasonably cooperate with Artifact in responding to or defending such a matter.
This section does not require you to indemnify, defend, or hold harmless any protected party to the extent a claim results from that party’s fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any liability that cannot legally be limited, waived, or transferred.
Termination.
You may stop using Artifact at any time by leaving the Discord community, discontinuing use of Artifact tools, or ceasing access to the website.
Artifact may suspend, limit, or terminate your access at any time where reasonably necessary for policy enforcement, safety, legal compliance, community operations, protection of members, prevention of abuse, or a violation of these Terms.
Provisions that should reasonably survive termination—including rules related to intellectual property, privacy, moderation records, limitations of liability, indemnification, and enforcement—will continue to apply after access ends.
Changes to these Terms.
Artifact may update these Terms when needed. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
Continued use of Artifact after updated Terms take effect means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree with an updated version, you must stop using Artifact and may leave the community.
Severability and no waiver.
If any part of these Terms is found to be invalid, unenforceable, or unlawful, that part will be limited or removed only to the minimum extent necessary. The remaining portions of these Terms will remain in effect.
Artifact’s failure to enforce any provision of these Terms at one time does not waive its right to enforce that provision or any other provision later.
